WWSD@WWDC?

Slobzilla's 2010 WWDC crackpot prediction:

An HTML5 OS X that will run iPhone and iPad apps. Think about a cloud-based Snow Leopard that would kill Google Chrome in its infancy and put Flash in a death spiral. I'm just sayin'.

What is and what will ever Steve?

OK, so the iPad looks like an overgrown iPod Touch and does all of the same things. Sadly, it does not have a camera so there go the photography apps, but everything else is supposed to work peachy and Apple whipped up a version of iWork because they insist businesses will use their stuff someday! Just when you thought you were out the 3G version pulls you back in, with AT&T that is. They have another exclusive deal with AT&T, but no contract this time. Either pay the monthly fee or don't. Surfing the web via 3G will cost fifteen clams per month if you can limit yourself to 250mb of porn (so that's out) or thirty bones for unlimited porn-gazing. It surfs more than porn, too, for those rare occasions you need the web to augment your non-porn trivia bank. All in all, not as much to write home about this time.

We can and should be getting excited about the A4 chip, though. Should you still have an Edge model or plain 3G, how is it performing? Notice it slowing down? Try putting some larger apps on it an try again. If we're going to really use this stuff we need powerful chips and, according to Apple, the A4 is a screamer. Let's hope they soon start stuffing them in the phones. Opening the iPhone up to other carriers is the only thing higher on our wish list.

Apple Pornographic

Steve is allowing the first porn app for the iPhone. Someday, Steve will tell us about the birds and the bees. He's bringing us along nicely.

You could have fooled me

2.1.jpg

I hadn't experienced dropped call problems with my 3G iPhone until I put the 2.1 update on it. Now, I'm getting them all the time. However, 2.1 did magically improve reception, even within a persistent deadzone in my neighborhood and the backup is indeed faster. I can't vouch for the faster 3rd party app installation, but I have a story about a certain dictionary that I'll share another time. Once my deep emotional wounds have healed a bit. I found another feature or have a magnificent bug in my phone. I'll frequently pull my earbuds out as a way to pause whatever I'm listening to. It's only natural considering how lazy I am and it works. Well, today I got to my desk, plugged my speakers into the phone and the podcast that I'd been listening to fired up where I left off with no other action on my part (home button, swipe on, iPod button, play). Just plugged the damned speakers in and sat back. Apple facilitates my sloth at ever turn! I love it.
